Turn Off This Discord Setting If You Don't Want Others Recording Your Voice

Discord is introducing a new Clips feature that allows users to record and upload short snippets of private streams and voice calls, similar to the clipping tools available on platforms like Twitch and YouTube. While this feature has been available to Discord Nitro+ subscribers for some time, it will soon be accessible to all users. The aim is to make it easier to share interesting moments from Discord streams with a broader audience and potentially attract new members to Discord communities. However, there are privacy concerns associated with this feature, as users could be recorded without their knowledge.

The Clips recording tools are currently in beta and are only available to selected users. Additionally, Discord has introduced a new setting that allows users' voice channels to be included in other people's Clips, and this setting is enabled by default.

The significance of this feature lies in the fact that unlike Twitch or YouTube, Discord streams are not public and require users to be in the Discord server or invited to the group call to participate. This means that Discord streams are typically private events among friends or community members. The concern arises from the fact that all users are automatically opted into being recorded by default, without being notified or given the option to disable it.

To prevent your voice from being included in other users' Discord Clips, you can disable the setting by following these steps:

1. Open Discord and go to Settings > Clips.

2. Click the slider next to "Allow my voice to be recorded in Clips" to ensure it is grayed out (if it's green, it means your voice can be recorded).

3. Once disabled, close the settings menu, and your voice will not be included in Discord Clips recorded by others.

It's also a good idea to inform your friends about this new setting, as many Discord users may be unaware of the feature or its implications. As more users gain access to the recording tools, it is hoped that Discord will provide clearer information about this feature and how users can manage their privacy settings.
