Redondo Union High School Freshman to Appear on "Shark Tank" with Dual-Handle Umbrella Invention
Nathaniel Wellen, a freshman at Redondo Union High School, is set to showcase his invention, a dual-handle umbrella, on the popular television show "Shark Tank" airing on Friday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. The episode will feature Wellen pitching his invention to the panel of investors, known as "sharks."
Joining Wellen on the show will be his sister, Katherine Wellen, a student at Parras Middle School, as they present their innovative umbrella design. The invention allows a parent and child to hold the umbrella simultaneously, offering a practical solution for rainy days.
Wellen's journey as an entrepreneur began when he participated in the Redondo Beach Unified School District's Invention Convention for middle school students during the 2021-22 school year. His success at the local level led him to the National Invention Convention, where he secured second place and received the "Originality Award" for his creative design. Notably, Wellen holds a patent for his dual-handle umbrella invention, adding to his achievements.
His outstanding performance at the national level earned him an invitation to compete globally, showcasing the impact of his invention on a larger scale.
